Mectron Medical was founded over 25 years ago by two Italian engineers, Fernando Bianchetti and Domenico Vercellotti. From the very beginning, Mectron was dedicated to the development and the production of technologically advanced dental products. Mectron has been continuously growing over the years and is currently exporting to over 70 countries. In its headquarters, located in Carasco, Italy, almost 100 employees in R&D, manufacturing and administration are dedicated to the company’s mission.

Mectron offers products for preventive and restorative dentistry, as well as oral surgery: ultrasonic scalers, air polishers, curing lights and Piezosurgery®.

Mectron’s innovation in ultrasonic scaling was historic. When in the ‘80s magneto-strictive technology was then gold standard for ultrasonic scaling, Mectron decided to pursue piezoelectric technology, the most modern technology available. Mectron worked to overcome the limitations of ultrasonic transduction and make this technology completely reliable. Mectron was the first company in the world to develop titanium transducers, hence advancing the effectiveness of ultrasonic technology in dentistry. All other companies later adopted Mectron’s innovation.

Mectron’s technological contribution to the field of light curing was possibly even more decisive. The company had already been one of the leaders for conventional halogen lights, when it introduced the world’s first curing light based on LED technology! Cordless, powerful, lightweight and long-lasting curing had not existed before! This invention is today’s standard and Mectron remains one of the most important manufacturers of LED lights.

Piezosurgery® is the latest yet most important example of Mectron’s innovative power. In collaboration with Professor Tomaso Vercellotti, Mectron developed Piezosurgery®: a new ultrasonic technology which delivers a level of precision and safety previously unseen in dental bone surgery. Today, many thousands of specialized dentists and oral surgeons employ this revolutionary technique in their day-to-day practice. Today, Mectron is by far the worldwide leader in ultrasonic bone surgery.
